Darrel Ross, MD
When a friend called Dr. Darrel Ross about an opportunity to
practice medicine in Anderson, he was intrigued by how
similar Madison County is to the southeastern Michigan
community where he grew up. Yet, it wasn’t until he began
practicing as a radiation oncologist at Saint John’s Cancer
Center that he fully realized how the philosophy and values
of this medical community matched so closely to his own.
“When I came to Saint John’s, I found that the
administrative team and the associates in the Cancer Center
all shared a passion for the community and a strong
commitment to providing the highest quality and most
technologically advanced care,” he said. “For a small town,
Saint John’s has unbelievably advanced technology and
operations. The technology at Saint John’s is actually more
advanced than what you find in Indianapolis.”
After his arrival in 2005, Dr. Ross’s aggressive and
enterprising personality took hold and he began helping to
move the Cancer Center forward--partnering with Mayo Clinic,
enhancing the research program, establishing cancer support
groups and other amenities to address the physical,
spiritual and emotional needs of cancer patients, and
introducing additional state-of-the-art technology. SAVI and
MammoSite are two of the most recent technological
advancements, offering a 5-day radiation treatment to women
following lumpectomy. Patients appreciate Dr. Ross’s
compassion, dedication to quality and expertise in
explaining things in simple terms. Community involvement is
high on his list, and he has been active in supporting the
work of the American Cancer Society locally.
Dr. Ross appreciates the peaceful, friendly culture in
Madison County. Not one to sit still at work or at home, he
enjoys kick-boxing, weight lifting and cycling in his spare
time. Saint John’s is fortunate that this University of
Michigan grad answered the call to Indiana after completing
his training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. His passion
for patient care, service and quality have been a good match
with Saint John’s ministry, and another perfect example of
