LAPAROSCOPIC
HYSTERECTOMY:
Dr. Jeff Blake
Dr. Jeff Blake could have practiced any number of places
in the United States. With an innovative and compassionate
spirit, a medical degree from Indiana University and
internships and residencies at Butterworth Hospital in Grand
Rapids, Michigan, Jeff was positioned well to succeed. He
chose Anderson.
“I wanted to settle in a place where I could have the
kind of quality of life that is important to me and my
family. My wife and I grew up in smaller towns and we wanted
to raise our families in similar atmospheres. We did the
"big city" thing during Med School and residency and
realized that, although we liked having access to areas like
Indy or Chicago, we didn't want to live there. I like living
in a smaller community, having land, woods, a creek and
space, working with my tractor, cutting down a tree or
planting a pumpkin patch. We love living in Pendleton where
everywhere you go, you see people you know--the hometown
feel is great. Providing care at a smaller hospital that
responds to personal needs of patients and staff allows a
similar intimacy and warmness that you don't find in larger
hospitals. It was important for me to practice at a facility
that paralleled my own personality. In narrowing down our
options for beginning my practice, we decided that we wanted
to come back to Indiana to be near our families, we wanted
to be close enough to Indy to run there easily, and we
wanted the smaller community. Although I had offers in
Chicago and Indy, we felt claustrophobic whenever we
visited. We liked the Northwest side of Indy, we liked
Pendleton, and most importantly, I was impressed with the
ministry and quality we found at Saint John’s when we
visited here in 1992. I continue to be impressed with how
seriously Saint John's pursues its ministry and high
standards every day,” Jeff said. “Saint John’s and Madison
County have been great matches for me.”
And Jeff has been a great choice for Saint John’s. As one of
only a few physicians in Indiana who provide cutting edge
procedures like laparoscopic hysterectomy for uterine
problems, and InterStim for urinary incontinence, Jeff fits
right in with the innovative philosophy at Saint John’s and
its highly skilled medical staff. Saint John’s is unique for
a community the size of Anderson, and Saint John’s
physicians are often among the first in Indiana and the
United States to offer procedures utilizing the latest
technology. Because of Jeff and other physicians like him,
area residents have access to the latest technology--close
to home.
Jeff, his wife Jen, and their four children, Emily, Amanda,
Ethan, and Andrew are right at home in this county that
embraces family values. Jen is active in community events,
the school PTO, volunteers at the elementary, middle and
high schools, teaches Sunday school, and is director of 5-6
grade ministry at their church. Jeff, in the spare time he
has, is very involved in a number of creative outlets:
photography, gardening, carpentry, computers, cooking,
camping, landscaping (with 10 acres there's a lot to do),
painting and drawing, and model railroading. He’s a creative
guy with a warm, outgoing personality that patients
appreciate. You don’t have to talk with him long to
understand that what motivates him is his compassion to help
his patients. “My goal from day one has been to treat my
patients with respect and friendliness from the first phone
call or encounter and to offer state-of-the-art diagnosis
and treatment,” Jeff said. "I want to provide my patients
the most efficient, successful and easiest diagnosis and
treatment possible."
Patients and Saint John’s are blessed to have him in this
community, and Saint John’s is especially thankful that his
small town Hoosier values brought him and his innovative
medicine to our ministry—where modern miracles are close to
home.
