LAPAROSCOPIC
HYSTERECTOMY:
Andrea Streaty
When Andrea Streaty was tired of suffering from grueling
and unbearable pain in her abdomen, she turned to Dr. Jeff
Blake at Saint John’s Hospital for help. Andrea is one of
many women to experience a laparoscopic hysterectomy
surgery, through Dr. Blake.
“Before my surgery, I was very bloated all of the time and
was in a lot of pain,” commented Streaty. “I’m a tiny
person, and people kept asking me if I was pregnant, so I
decided to start buying maternity clothes due to the fact
that I was so bloated.”
Heavy bleeding, becoming full very quickly after eating and
having trouble walking and doing normal every day activities
were only a few of the downfalls to the pain that Andrea was
suffering before the hysterectomy surgery. Andrea consulted
with Saint John’s Hospital and made an immediate appointment
to meet with Dr. Blake.
“After a checkup, he gave me the advice to go ahead with the
surgery,” she said. “He was very quick to schedule me, as I
had my surgery a few weeks later.”
Though the thought of surgery frightened Streaty, she was
quickly comforted through Dr. Blake and his friendly staff
before surgery.
“The hardest part of the surgery for me was the IV,” she
commented. “I was definitely more nervous than I should’ve
been.”
Having the special laparoscopic procedure through Dr. Blake
helped Streaty recover more quickly after surgery. While
recovery among normal hysterectomy procedures can often
evolve into a six-week time period, the laparoscopic method
downsizes recovery time to two weeks.
“With this surgery procedure, I was looking at a recovery
time of two weeks in comparison to six,” said Streaty. “It
was definitely a quick recovery for me.”
Since the surgery, Streaty is very happy with her results,
as life after surgery has definitely been very rewarding.
She is now walking much better, and loves to play with her
kids.
“I feel great about my surgery and things are much better
now,” she said. “I don’t feel any pressure around my abdomen
anymore, and most importantly, I don’t feel miserable. I
would definitely recommend this surgery to other women.
“Dr. Blake and his staff really care about their patients,”
she continued. “When they say they will call to follow-up
with you on your progress after your surgery, they mean it.
It’s comforting to see a doctor who gets excited about what
he does. He cares about his patients.”
