Saint John’s Offers Free Wireless Internet Service to
Patients and Guests
Saint John’s Health System is now an Internet “Hotspot,”
providing free Internet services to patients and visitors.
The new service, named “Saint John’s eConnect,” provides
patients and visitors with access to services in two
different ways: through free wireless Internet connection
and through access to selected Internet sites from
convenient workstations.
The Saint John’s eConnect wireless service enables a
patient or guest to bring their own laptop or wireless
device to Saint John’s campus and use the Internet
connection from anywhere within the range of the wireless
signal. Visitors who don’t have a wireless device may access
selected Internet services (personal e-mail, Saint John’s
home page, medical information, and Saint John’s librarian
services) from any of 12 work stations located throughout
the Medical Center, Cancer Center, and Surgery Center.
“The Internet is such an important part of all our lives.
By providing Internet access to patients and guests at Saint
John’s facilities, we hope to make their visit more
comfortable, enjoyable and convenient. Patients and guests
using this service will be able to access e-mail to keep
family members and friends better appraised of their loved
one’s progress during their time at Saint John's, catch up
on work, and access health information and resources on the
net,” said Kyle De Fur, president of Saint John’s.
If their laptop, PDA, or wireless device contains a
wireless network interface card, patients and guests may
have Internet access anywhere in Saint John’s Medical
Center, Ambulatory Services Center, Roby Medical Office
Building, Anderson Center, Surgery Center, Education Center
and Children’s Clinic. The Internet is easily accessed
through a short user log-in. The work stations providing
selected access to those without wireless devices are
located in the Medical Center on each patient care unit,
Emergency Department waiting room, first floor hallway
adjacent to Radiology, and Surgery Center waiting area.
