Evaluation and therapy for speech and language, voice and swallowing problems are provided. Likely candidates for speech pathology services include children who are deaf or hearing impaired, are beginning to stutter, are developmentally delayed, have difficulty eating or swallowing, have had an injury resulting in a speech or language problem, or who have other physical or neurological conditions typically associated with speech, cognitive or swallowing problems.

Adult candidates for speech pathology include individuals who stutter; have a hoarse voice or inappropriate pitch; have had a stroke or injury resulting in difficulty talking, understanding, reading or writing, remembering or processing information; have had a laryngectomy; have speech that is difficult to understand; or who have difficulty swallowing. Screenings for speech and language disorders are also offered at the individual’s convenience.

Speech therapy is one of the comprehensive rehabilitation services offered by Saint John’s Health System.
