Conveniently located in Saint John’s Ambulatory Services Center, the Women’s Center’s atmosphere, staff, programs and services are geared totally to women. The Women’s Center utilizes state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques to detect breast disease. Sophisticated equipment includes  full field digital  mammography, stereotactic Suros Vacuum-assisted core biopsy system, wire localization for surgical breast biopsies, breast MR, breast ultrasound, and DEXA Bone Densitometry for detection of osteoporosis.  Our digital images are processed through our CAD (Computer Aided Detection) System prior to being read by our radiologists.  The technology acts as a second highly skilled radiologist, making a billion calculations for each image and marking any areas that may warrant a second look. Our radiology department can perform breast MR with CAD Stream (Computer Aided Detection) and MR-guided breast biopsies.

Saint John’s was the first Madison County facility to achieve accreditation by the American College of Radiology for mammography services. Full field digital mammography is the most advanced form of breast diagnosis and provides the clearest images. Women age 35 and over should have regularly scheduled mammograms. To have a mammogram scheduled at Saint John’s Women’s Center, women should consult their physician regarding the schedule appropriate for them and request that the exam be conducted at Saint John’s Women’s Center.

Saint John’s is the only facility in Madison County to offer stereotactic core needle biopsy system. After a three-dimensional X-ray pinpoints the lesion, a special needle extracts tissue cores for analysis.

The breast care navigator is a registered nurse who offers assistance, education and comfort.  She works with patients whose mammogram results suggest further testing.  Call 683-3233 to speak to the breast care navigator.

Also, the Women’s Center provides a variety of health education literature and videos pertaining to women’s health issues. Breast Self Exam instruction also is available.
