WHAT'S NEW:
NESS L300
Saint John’s is one of the first rehabilitation clinics
in Indiana to utilize a promising neuro-rehabilitation
device called the NESS L300. This equipment offers a better
treatment option for patients with central nervous system
damage and a condition called foot drop. The new L300 device
was just released in January, 2007, by
Bioness, Inc., and offers a new way to treat patients
who’ve suffered stroke, brain tumors, head trauma, multiple
sclerosis or cerebral palsy. the wireless device includes an
electrical stimulation unit that sends electronic impulses
up and down the patient’s leg as he/she walks. Another
component piece clips into the patient’s shoe and senses how
much weight he is bearing; another piece wraps around the
patient’s leg just below his knee; and a remote control can
be used by a therapist to help correct the patient’s gait as
he walks.
SaeboFlex
The
SaeboFlex
allows individuals suffering
from neurological
impairments such as stroke
the ability to incorporate
their hand functionally in
therapy and at home by
supporting the weakened
wrist, hand, and fingers.
The
SaeboFlex
is a custom fabricated
orthosis that is
non-electrically based and
is purely mechanical.
It is
particularly useful to patients who have had strokes
that leave their arm /hand dysfunctional due to
spasticity. Often these patients have some ability to
grasp, but the problem is they cannot open their fingers
or extend the wrist/finger.
This
splint assists with the extension, the grasp release and
the finger/thumb pinching motions.
