The
goal of occupational therapy is to help individuals with
injuries or disabilities regain independence and
self-sufficiency in performing daily living skills, such as
eating, dressing, working, etc.
Occupational therapy has established treatment regimes for:
hand injuries, upper extremity orthopedic or neurological
conditions, arthritis, head injuries, debilitating
conditions, developmental delays, pulmonary diagnoses, joint
replacements, neurological or other debilitating illnesses
or injuries.
Certified
Hand Therapy
Specialized care of upper extremity injuries is offered
at the outpatient rehabilitation center at Enterprise Drive.
Neurological to orthopedics. Treatment extending from
degloving and hand mutilation to acute carpal tunnel
syndrome. Custom functional bracing/splinting addressing
support to an injured area to facilitating modified arm/hand
use to a non-useable extremity. Potential treatment areas
can include pre/post operative orthopedic cases, trauma
patients, ORIF, tendonitis, repetitive motion disorders,
burns/wound care, arthritis, tendon repairs, etc. Focus on
assisting patients to return to pain controlled strength,
mobility and function to an upper extremity injury or
disability
Occupational therapy will provide individualized
rehabilitative treatment, as well as assistive devices and
durable medical equipment evaluations. Patients and families
are instructed in proper and safe use of appropriate
equipment in order to improve safety and independence.
